New order with Voith for SCA Kostheim

GAW will deliver the chemical preparation system for the new tissue machine TM5 - supplied by Voith - at the SCA Kostheim plant. The scope of delivery will include the storage units as well as the mixing and dosing stations for the coating chemicals.

Kostheim - close to Mainz / Germany - is one of many facilities of SCA, a global hygiene and paper company with 45,000 employees.

With this order the premium-tissue technology, patented by Voith, will be installed. For the first time ever a paper machine will be operated exclusively with this technology. GAW delivers the processing plants and the feeding system of the coating chemicals to the Yankee cylinder. The Yankee is an independent, multi-functional part, which works as a big drying cylinder as well as a backing roll to the press roll. It is the most central, sophisticated and expensive part of each tissue machine. The Voith premium-tissue technology results in remarkable savings of energy and costs compared to the conventional TAD technology (Through Air Drying).

The TM5 is of double width (wire width: 5,500 mm) and will produce some 60,000 metric tons per year of high-quality tissue paper at a basis weight of 20.5 g/m². The start-up is scheduled for spring 2013.

Project for Hupo Paper / Fushun Mining

GAW supports one of the largest Chinese mining companies with expansion

The Fushun Mining Group, founded over a century ago, is one of the largest mining companies in China. Its main products are coal, shale oil and mining machinery but it is also expanding into other business segments. Its investment in the construction of a paper machine, which was commissioned in autumn 2011 in the city of Fushun in the north-eastern province of Liaoning for the production of 60,000 tonnes of tissue paper every year, was the company’s first step in the paper industry. The operating subsidiary has been named Hupo Paper.

In addition to the tissue paper machine, another machine is also currently being set up for the production of 300,000 tonnes of recycled corrugated cardboard per year, for which GAW will supply the starch treatment units, working stations and processing systems for wet end chemicals. One of the main challenges with this project is the tight schedule with a delivery deadline of spring 2012.

Hupo Paper is a major part of the current regeneration and reconstruction taking place in the paper industry in north-east China, following its deterioration in the late nineties when, primarily because of outdated infrastructure, many major state paper factories lost their competitive viability and closed down. GAW is proud that its decades of experience in processing liquid and powder-based products for paper manufacturing has enabled it to acquire a new, aspiring paper producer as a customer with Hupo Paper.

Plastic link conveyor for VWN Hanover

The GAW automotive team has been entrusted with a pilot project for Volkswagen commercial vehicles in Hanover since the beginning of October.

A new central finishing area is to be made for the two vehicle types Amarok und T5. GAW will supply and commission materials handling technology consisting of a plastic, double-spur apron conveyor at 4 m wide with a loading and unloading ramp for the inspection of painted vehicles. The total periphery and a light tunnel built over the entire area—including steel construction, electrics and visualisation—are also to be supplied and assembled by GAW as the general contractor.

Assembly will begin at the end of February 2012 and start of production is expected to take place at the end of March. VWN is also subsequently planning more installations of this nature.

New GAW GROUP member: Buss ChemTech

KRESTA acquired shares in the Swiss Buss ChemTech AG. This acquisition is expanding the strong position in the area of chemical industry. In addition to the focus on apparatus-, tank- and piping construction for the pulp and paper industry and in the field of renewable energies, KRESTA also succeeded to enhance its skills in the strategically important field of the chemical industry.

The subsidiary company KRESTA Technology AG in Zug/Switzerland acquired 56 % of the shares of Buss ChemTech AG in Pratteln/Basel-Land, the remaining 44 % are staying in Swiss hands. The technology portfolio of KRESTA is extended by the worldwide technology provider of reaction engineering, fluorine chemistry and anodemass production, with about 60 employees. The goal is to develop the location into the new technology center of the KRESTA Group.

In combination with the other locations of the Group (St. Andrä, Freiberg, Mülheim, Cologne and Ludwigshafen) the technological developments will be implemented into real projects and systems – for example a unit for a Chinese customer is already under construction and will be shipped end of the year.
