GAW sponsers trees for a primary school 

In cities, trees ensure an extremely important part of the quality of life! They produce oxygen, use up climate-damaging carbon dioxide, cool the air and have an extremely positive impact in general on life expectancy in urban areas. 

For this reason we support the city of Graz environmental program ÖKOPROFIT. GAW and other tree sponsors planted hardwood trees (thereof 6 pcs. on behalf of GAW) at a primary school yard.
Oaks, maples, elms, willows, etc. will provide children close to the our headquarter in Graz with shade during their breaks and outdoor school activities.

The Deputy Mayor of the City of Graz Judith Schwentner, City Counsilor Kurt Hohensinner, Sigrid Tertinegg from GAW, further tree sponsors as well as elementary school students also gave a little hand - but the official Graz gardeners really did all the hard work!

Did you know that it is actually common to plant trees in winter (as long as the ground is not frozen)? We learned that the roots can actually grow stronger because the energy is not spent for leaves or treetop/branch growth.

GAW is very much looking forward to seeing the trees growing.

From now on, the newly planted trees etc. will not only provide shade for the schoolyard and block out street noise, but above all will also strengthen young people's perception of trees as a central component of a functioning ecosystem.
