New GAW dispersing machine at Koehler Paper in Kehl/Germany

In February 2022 a new dispersing machine from GAW technologies was started up at Koehler Paper in Kehl/Germany.

The Koehler Group was founded in 1807 and has been a family-owned company since the beginning.

The group's core business lies in the development and production of high-quality specialty papers. The Group has 2,500 employees, five production sites in Germany and three in the USA. The innovative high-tech thermal papers from the world market leader Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, are used in many areas of everyday life: as receipts, as parcel labels and wherever information needs to be printed out quickly.

The design of the new plant from GAW optimally tailors the dispersing properties to each product and thus enables the savings of valuable resources. Among other parameters, the VST Bottom Drive Aggregate from GAW is one of the keys to this achievement. VST stands for Variable Shear Technology and means that the dispersing unit automatically adapts to the respective production step. In addition, a modern jetty/baffle ensures the generation of accurate turbulences -depending on the product- so that the impacting shear forces are correctly synced.

Further advantages:

  • High efficiency even with small batches
  • Avoidance of excessive air entry through the SXF jetty/baffle
  • Contribution of high and highest shear forces by additional support of the engine speed
  • Large space savings on the level below as well as more space on the operating level for introducing a large number of products thanks to the "Bottom Drive" attachment of the motor (hanging under the dispersing tank)

Koehler Paper developed the integration and supply of the large number of additives, which are necessary for the elaborate and highly complex production of the different coating colours.

"As in previous projects with GAW technologies, the cooperation ran smoothly from project planning to final commissioning. With the additional dispersing unit, we are very well positioned for the future regarding increasing production volumes and the number of varied coating colours," says Tobias Jilg, Planning Mechanics - Central Plant Technology at Koehler.

GAW technologies has already been working for Koehler Paper in the past - i.a. on the production line 8, which went into operation in 2019 in Kehl and is one of the largest high-performance specialty paper machines in the world.
